Sometimes when we get to a crossroad in our lives, we become overwhelmed with our thoughts. When looking at making a change in our careers, there are so many options out there; how do we know what will truly make us happy? This is a good time to stop, think and write. Being able to define “what makes you tick” is the first step in thinking about what’s next.
The Life Purpose and Passion Exercise lets you do just that. By answering 10 questions and working with the answers, you should start to see some themes that can guide the choices you make regarding your career. In this exercise you will be asked to write down what you enjoy doing, what you daydream about, your accomplishments, things you enjoy (and don’t enjoy) in both your work and your leisure time, and finally document the themes in your answers.
One note, this is not a five minute exercise. Take your time. You may start it, put it down for a while, process some thoughts and come back later to write them down. Or you may have already done a great deal of thinking and just need to organize and document your thoughts. However you complete this exercise, it will be a great place to start as you begin your exploration.
