You have likely done quite a bit of work during your job search to secure your new opportunity. Keep the momentum going, to help support ongoing career growth.
- After you get settled, update your social media profiles with your new professional information.
- Consider reaching out to everyone in your network who helped with the search, let them know where you landed, thank them for their assistance, offer to return the favor. Then, make a note on the calendar to contact everyone again at least once or twice per year. You likely did a lot of work to mobilize your network during the search – you probably don’t want to let it grow cold now that you’ve ended this particular transition. A quick email or call to say hello, a meeting for coffee or drinks, forwarding an article of interest or commenting on a social media update can help you keep in touch with this network, which may provide mutual benefit throughout the rest of your career.
- Consider updating your resume regularly. The annual performance review process is potentially a good time. Consider updating your social media profiles at the same time, to keep your online presence current.
- Keep an eye on your long-term career goals, so that you can strategically work in the short term to reach where you want to land later down the road.
